Performance specification and benchmarking is another area where the network can provide assistance to industry. Development of components for a new technology is a difficult and risky venture. For small and medium enterprises, the specification of minimum performance can be deterministic in the continued economic existence of the enterprise. Thus there is a need for the definition of benchmark tests for measuring the performance of systems and components. The Standing Committee for Benchmarking Activities has been formed to address this need. This committee is chaired by Patrick Stelmaszyk of ITMI-APTOR.
