Abstract:
Observers make many attributions to faces (this face looks beautiful or mean etc.). The paper will review our research attempts to define the visual cues in terms of facial motion, shape, colouration and textural features (e.g. wrinkles) underlying such attributions. We first determine the consistency of psychological attributions to dynamic or static facial displays. We find observers agree little about some attributions e.g. the taste (bitter, sour, salt) that others experience but are consistent and accurate in other attributions e.g. the degree of displeasure pleasure provoked by tastes.
